Moon Township, Pa. - Freshman Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) of the Robert Morris University women's hockey team was named the College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie of the Week for a record third time in the league's weekly release Monday.
Imbrogno becomes the first player in RMU history to earn CHA rookie honors three times in a season as she collected her initial award Oct. 4 and registered her second recognition Nov. 15.
Imbrogno recorded a goal in each Robert Morris game this past week, including tallying the game-tying goal against Niagara Saturday. Imbrogno led the team in shots on goal (9) and shooting percentage (.222) while tying for the team lead with a +2 plus/minus on the weekend.
After this past week, Imbrogno now leads the Colonials in goals (4), points (6) and shots on goal (18) in CHA play. Imbrogno also currently ranks second in the conference among freshman in points with 13.
It is the fourth occasion this season that a Robert Morris freshman has been garnered with league rookie honors as Kylie St. Louis (Windsor, Ontario / Southwest Wildcats) earned the distinction Nov. 22. It is also the fourth time in the past five weeks that Robert Morris has had a hand in the conference's weekly awards as sophomore Kristen DiCiocco (Niagara Falls, Ontario / Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres) was named the CHA Goaltender of the Week last Monday.
Imbrogno earned her first rookie award after the season's opening week in which she became the first Colonial in school history to play a role in each of the team's first three goals of a season. She assisted on Robert Morris' first two tallies before scoring the go-ahead goal with just 15 seconds remaining in the second period to help RMU upset nationally-ranked Providence in its season opener.
Imbrogno, who had already become the third active Colonial to earn multiple league rookie awards, received her second honor after registering her second consecutive multi-point game by tallying the game-clinching goal and an assist to lead RMU to a 3-1 victory in its CHA home opener, Nov. 12.
Robert Morris is now off until after the holiday break, but when the Colonials return to the ice, they will continue with their program-record, eight-game road trip. RMU will next be in action Saturday, Jan. 8, when it faces off against Connecticut in its final non-conference series of the season.
