Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's tennis team slipped to 3-16 overall on the 2009-10 campaign with a pair of road losses, falling at Mount St. Mary's, 4-3, April 1, before dropping a 6-1 decision at George Mason, April 2.
Against the Mountaineers, RMU earned the doubles point thanks to victories at the first two flights. At No. 1, senior David Pinto (Burlington, Ontario / Nelson) and freshman Igor Neves (Ponta Pora, Brazil / Ponta Pora) posted an 8-6 win over Patrick Plastow and Matthew Blake, while senior Daniel Becker (Carnegie, Pa. / Carlynton) and freshman Liran Braun (Herzelia, Israel / Herzelia) earned an identical 8-6 victory at No. 2 overa Andrew Marinucci and Mike Salomon.
In singles play, Pinto posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 1 flight over Plastow, while Becker came through at the No. 4 flight with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Marinucci.
Becker was also responsible for RMU's lone point against George Mason, defeating Sam Coster at the No. 5 singles flight, 6-1 and 6-1, to improve to 5-10 overall in singles play this season.
The Colonials are next in action Tuesday, April 13, when they visit Bucknell for a 2:00 p.m. match. It marks the final dual match of the 2009-10 campaign before the 2010 Northeast Conference Tournament, which will be held April 16-18 in Princeton, N.J.
