Moon Township, Pa.—Freshman Miro Cabrillo (Hamilton, Ontario / Glendale Secondary), a freshman forward on the Robert Morris University men's soccer team, was named the adidas / Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference Monday.
Cabrillo's first two collegiate goals both proved to be game-winners as Robert Morris captured the Green Bay Soccer Classic over the weekend. In Friday's 2-0 win over Western Michigan, Cabrillo put the Colonials on the scoreboard just 44 seconds into the second half as Robert Morris held the nation's highest scoring team without a goal.
On Sunday, the Colonials were nursing a 1-0 lead over UNLV in the 70th minute when Cabrillo beat the keeper to ball, then avoided two more defenders before placing the ball into the back of the net. Robert Morris was able to withstand a late Runnin' Rebel goal and come away with the 2-1 win.
The Colonials have now won two straight following a 0-4 start. They return to North Athletic Complex after playing five of their first six games on the road when Niagara visits Friday, September 24, for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
