Win Streak Hits Four As RMU Topples Canisius, 2-1

Moon Township, Pa. / North Athletic Complex-The Robert Morris University men's soccer team evened its season record at 4-4 with a 2-0 win against Canisius College Sunday afternoon at North Athletic Complex. The Colonials end the non-conference portion of their schedule with an even record while the Golden Griffins are winless through five games. The win was the team's fourth consecutive.

"I've been 7-2 going into conference season and not made the playoffs. The year we won the conference, we started the season 0-5," said RMU head coach Bill Denniston. "Just when conference play comes around, everything gets tighter. To go into it with four straight wins will help, but it will only help. We've still have to take each game as its own, one at a time."

Playing just inside the Canisius penalty area along the left side, junior Francis Bowman (Fawn Grove, Pa. / Kennard-Dale) and freshman Daniel Calabretta (Brampton, Ontario / St. Marguerite D'Youville) connected on a quick one-two combination. The play ended with Bowman placing his shot off the right post and into the net to give RMU a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute.

Winning a ball on the left side, senior Tyler Solis (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin) played a low cross 12 yards from net. Prince Samuels (St. Catherine, Jamaica / Kingston College) was there, poking home a shot to the left post, pushing the margin to 2-0 in the 56th minute.

Sophomore Toba Bolaji (Vaughn, Ontario / Maple) turned away four shots to pick up the shutout.

Robert Morris opens Northeast Conference play October 1 at Bryant with kick-off slated for 2:00 p.m.
