Second Half Flurry Buries Colonials At Duquesne

Pittsburgh, Pa. / Art Rooney Field - The Robert Morris University men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to crosstown rival Duqesne on Saturday afternoon. All four goals in the contest came during a 15-minute stretch of the second half leaving the Colonials with a 0-2 mark on the season while the Dukes even their season mark at 1-1.

After a scoreless first half, Duquesne got on the board in the 52nd minute when Simon Gomez tallied his first of two goals in the contest. It took just 46 seconds to answer when senior Neil Shaffer (Aliquippa, Pa. / Beaver) scored his first marker of the season on an assist from junior Matt Sheibley (Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern).

Five minutes later, Tyler Tompkins gave the Dukes the lead back before Gomez' second goal of the game pushed the margin to 3-1 in the 67th minute.

Robert Morris opens its home season Wednesday, September 8, when Wright State visits North Athletic Complex for a 4:00 p.m. game.
