No. 5 Stanford Sneaks Past Robert Morris 1-0

Box Score

Palo Alto, Calif. - Sept. 30, 2011 - A week after setting a new program record with its sixth win of the season, the Robert Morris University field hockey team couldn't continue the success on Friday, dropping a 1-0 decision to No. 5 Stanford.

Entering the weekend looking for their second win over a nationally ranked opponent, the Colonials (6-6 overall, 0-0 NEC) came up just short in the West Coast contest. After a scoreless first half, Stanford (9-1, 3-0 NorPac) snapped the stalemate early in the second half when Katie Mitchell scored at 37:41 for the game's lone goal.

Robert Morris had few offensive chances in the contest with just three shots including two from freshman Jamie Hartley (Tamworth, Australia / University of Newcastle) that landed on goal.  Colonial goalkeepers Erin McKenzie (Lismore, Australia / University of Queensland Tech) took the loss for RMU, making 11 saves in the contest with just the one goal against.

Robert Morris returns to action on Sunday at Pacific.
