Moon Township, Pa. / North Athletic Complex-The Robert Morris University women's soccer team rolled to a 3-1 victory
over the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights Friday afternoon to improve to 4-3 in
Northeast Conference play. RMU sits at 10-6-1 overall - reaching double-digit
wins for the first time in team history - while FDU slips to 4-10-1 and 1-7 in
league games.
Robert Morris set the tempo early on in this contest,
peppering the FDU net with seven shots in the first 17 minutes of play. The continuing
pressure by the Colonials finally paid off in the 23rd minute. A corner kick to
the center of the box by senior Holly Sieradzki (Clifton, N.J. / Clifton) found
the head of sophomore Alexa Sarsfield (Springdale, Pa. / Springdale) who buried
her second marker of the season inside the left post.
The lead, however, was short-lived. A free kick from 18
yards out turned into the Knights first score in the 28th minute. Amy
Flanagan's right-footed effort from the left side fooled RMU keeper Jess Olin
(New Port Richey, Fla. / River Ridge), curling from right-to-left before
finding the netting on the right side of the cage.
The Knights goal was the only shot that RMU would allow
in the first 70 minutes of play.
The Colonials snapped the tie in the 58th minute. Senior
Brianna Bell (Irwin, Pa. / Hempfield) won a ball on the end-line sending it back
to the center of the box. There, senior Ayana Davis (Mt. Laurel, N.J. / Holy
Cross) touched a ball back to the far side of the box where Jaimie Morra
(Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) placed a shot off the right post and in. It was
her first goal of the season.
Senior Jess Sharik (North Huntington, Pa. / Norwin) tallied
her fourth of the year in the 70th minute. Her shot from 30 yards out found the
left side netting. The play was set up from the defense where Sieradzki
switched fields to Darla Sebbens (Irwin, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) who
found Sharik open down the right wing.
The Colonials close out their home schedule and celebrate
Senior Day this Sunday, Oct. 23, when they host Bryant in a 1:00 p.m. game at
North Athletic Complex.
