Moon Township, Pa. - Former Robert Morris University men's lacrosse standout Andrew Watt '08 was recently selected to play for the Western Division team in the National League Lacrosse (NLL) All-Star Game.
Watt, a transition player for the Minnesota Swarm, will make his first-career all-star appearance Sunday, Feb. 27 at Turning Stone Arena at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, N.Y. The game will be carried live nationally in the United States on VERSUS.
Watt has already collected a career-high 10 goals on just 23 shots halfway through the season and has recorded 13 points in eight games played. He leads all transition players on the Swarm in both goals and points and is tied for third on the team in goals overall. Watt has also contributed in areas other than offense as he is second on the team with 49 loose balls and is tied for the team lead with nine forced turnovers.
Watt is also tied for the NLL lead with three shorthanded goals, including collecting two in the same game Feb. 4 at Buffalo. He registered another impressive performance when he opened the season with a hat trick as part of a four-point game against Rochester Jan. 8.
Minnesota is currently in second place in the West, trailing first-place Calgary by a single game, and has allowed a division-low 88 goals thus far.
Watt has 42 points, including 24 goals, and 203 loose balls in 36 career games played for the Swarm and signed a two-year contract extension with Minnesota in January.
During his time as a Colonial, Watt made a lasting mark on the Robert Morris program. He was a member of the school's inaugural team in 2005 and led the team in goals in each of his four years at RMU. He currently sits third in all-time points (128), is tied for second in career goals (91), ranks fourth in career assists (37), and has scored the most man-up goals (17) and fired the most shots (317) in program history.
Watt is one of three Colonials to have played in the NLL this season as Jeff Gilbert '08 has played in all but one contest for the first-place Toronto Rock on defense, while Jordon Sealock '10 has suited up for the first-place Calgary Roughnecks.
Robert Morris continues its 2011 season Saturday, Feb. 26 as it seeks its third consecutive win against Manhattan. Faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Joe Walton Stadium.
