Robert Morris Runs Winning Streak to Five

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's tennis team ran its winning streak to five matches by posting a perfect 4-0 record against Northeast Conference opponents this weekend at the North Athletic Complex.

The Colonials posted a 5-1 victory over St. Francis (N.Y.) Friday, earned a 4-3 win over Mount St. Mary's Saturday before completing its perfect weekend with a 6-1 victory over Wagner and a 5-2 win over Saint Francis (Pa.) Sunday.

RMU improved to 6-11 overall on the 2010-11 campaign with the four victories, including a perfect 4-0 against league opponents.

A trio of players didn't lose in singles action over the weekend, as junior Igor Neves (Ponta Pora, Brazil) and sophomores Tarun Kishan (Mississauga, Ontario / Saint Francis Xavier Secondary) and Jose Limon (Colonia San Jose, Mexico) each went 4-0.

Improving to 6-4 over his last 10 matches and 10-7 overall on the 2010-11 campaign, Limon held down the No. 3 singles flight with four wins. He opened the weekend with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Danlahdi Robinson of the Terriers, then posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mike Zabetakis of Mount St. Mary's Saturday.

Limon capped his perfect weekend in singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Taylor Santoro of Wagner and a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Nathaniel Fleming of Saint Francis (Pa.).

Neves won all four of his matches at the No. 4 singles flight, while Kishan finished 4-0 at No. 5.

Against St. Francis (N.Y.) Neves posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Edward Alontaga, defeated Taylor Place of Mount St. Mary's, 6-3 and 6-2, and closed out the weekend with victories over Yirmeyah Beckles of Wagner (6-1, 6-0) and Stephen Kowalski of Saint Francis (Pa.) (6-2, 6-3).

Kishan opened the weekend with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Daniel Gonzalez of the Terriers and went three sets with Patrick Plastow of Mount St. Mary's before pulling out a 6-4, 1-6 and 6-1 win. He capped his perfect weekend with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Pierre Yuzon of Wagner and a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kirby Mendes of Saint Francis (Pa.).

Kishan also won three matches in doubles action at the No. 3 flight with senior Aaron Haas (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Montour).

The duo earned a 9-7 win over Plastow and Andrew Marinucci of Mount St. Mary's, an 8-0 victory over Yuzon and Nicholas Apicella of Wagner before the No. 3 doubles team from Saint Francis (Pa.) forfeited the final doubles match of the weekend.

Robert Morris closes out a seven-match homestand Tuesday, April 12, with a 4:30 p.m. match against Allegheny at the North Athletic Complex.
