Colonials Upset No. 15 Ohio in Overtime

Box Score Moon Township, Pa. - Sept. 16, 2011 - Behind Erin McKenzie's first career shutout and an overtime goal from Michelle Lewthwaite, the Robert Morris field hockey team shocked No. 15 Ohio with a 1-0 overtime win on Friday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium. The upset marks the first win over a nationally ranked opponent in Colonials history.

Despite the Bobcats' high ranking, the pair of teams appeared evenly matched in every area save for one - Ohio held an 8-2 shot on goal mark over the Colonials. Even with the advantage, the visiting team was unable to find the back of the goal against a strong Robert Morris defense and freshman Erin McKenzie (Lismore, Australia / University of Queensland Tech) in net. McKenzie made eight saves in the win, recording the newcomer's first-career shutout in the process. The freshman holds a 3-4 record on the season.

After a back-and-forth 70 minutes of regulation, the Colonials (3-4 overall, 0-0 NEC) remained unbeaten in overtime when freshman Michelle Lewthwaite (Macarthur, Australia / Westfield Sports) found the back of the net just 3:01 into overtime for her second game winner of the year. Freshman Taleah Scott (Crookwell, Australia / Crookwell) found Lewthwaite waiting at the top of the circle off an RMU penalty corner, and Lewthwaite didn't waste the rare scoring chance against the Bobcats - scoring her team-high third goal of the year on a low drive to the far corner of the goal.

Opening the season with the best start in program history, Ohio snapped a six-game winning streak in the loss. Jen McGill took the loss for the Bobcats, making one save.

Robert Morris returns to action on Saturday with a home contest against Lindenwood at 11 a.m. The Colonials close out their five-game home stand against Liberty on Sunday at 12 p.m. Liberty topped Lindenwood 3-0 in a neutral-site game on Friday morning at Joe Walton Stadium.
