Three First Place Finishes for RMU at Edinboro

Edinboro, Pa. - The Robert Morris men's indoor track & field team continued its 2011-12 campaign this past weekend by competing in the Al Hall Freedom Games on the campus of Edinboro University. 

The meet was highlighted by a tiro of first-place finishes.  Junior Tyler Morton (Silver Spring, Md. / Springbrook) took home the gold in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.51.  Sophomore Shane Witmyer (West Lawn, Pa. / Wilson) placed first in the long jump thanks to a leap of 6.51 meters while junior Brendan Morales (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) won the shot put event with a throw of 15.40 meters.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Thomas Ireland (Greensboro, Md. / North Caroline) recorded a top five finish by placing third with a time of 8.75.  In other track events, freshmen Colby Kutz (Reading, Pa. / Holy Name), Ireland and junior Lance Washington (East Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg) crossed the finish line consecutively in the 200 meter dash.  In the 400 meter dash, Kutz notched another top-ten finish by placing eighth, just six spots behind fellow teammate Tyler Morton who finished second with a time of 51.48. 

Robert Morris also found success in the field events on Saturday.  Two Colonials finished in the top ten in the weight throw.  Morals finished sixth with a toss of 13.60 meters while junior Robert Saltsgiver (Hermitage, Pa. / Hickory) finished eight thanks to a throw of 12.49 meters.

In the pole vault, sophomore Chantz Wain (Finleyville, Pa. / Thomas Jefferson) placed sixth with a leap of 3.95 meters.  Fellow teammates Lance Washington and Richard Njenga (Ephrata, Pa. / Ephrata) placed third and fifth, respectively, in the event.

The Colonial men's track & field team continues its 2011-12 season this Friday, Jan. 27, by competing in the Penn State National Open in University Park, Pa.
