Moon Township, Pa. / North Athletic Complex - The
Robert Morris University men's soccer team struggled to finish offensive
opportunities as they suffered a 3-1 loss to Quinnipiac in a Northeast
Conference game at North Athletic Complex Sunday afternoon.
Quinnipiac had no problems capitalizing on their scoring
chances early in the game. The Bobcats scored the game's opening goal when Robbie
McLarney put a hard, low cross through the box to the far post. Erik Panzer
knocked his shot, first touch, inside the right post to put the visiting
Bobcats on top, 1-0, in the seventh minute.
Quinnipiac added to their lead in the eight minutes later as
William Cavallo tracked down a ball in the right corner and put it in the box
where William Daniels put it home.
A handball by the Bobcats in their own box resulted in a
penalty shot for the Colonials. Sophomore Devon Williams (Kingston, Jamaica /
St. Georges) scored his first career goal with a shot to the left-side netting
on the 12-yard free kick.
Quinnipiac quickly reestablished its two goal lead when Machel
Baker sent a cross to the top of the 18-yard box where Ola Ogunjobi was
unmarked. He took a touch, picked his spot and sent a shot low and right of RMU keeper Toba Bolaji (Vaughan, Ontario / Maple) who charging off his line.
The Colonials were denied twice in a matter of seconds in
the 65th minute, once by keeper Borja Angoitia and the second by the
woodwork. A hard shot by senior Niko Corado (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland
Valley) was turned aside by the keeper and the rebound shot by junior Prince Samuels (Saint Catherine, Jamaica / Kingston College) careened out of play off
the right post.
Robert Morris wraps up its 2012 schedule next Sunday, Nov.
4, when LIU Brooklyn visits North Athletic Complex for a 1:00 p.m. game.
