RMU Earns High Marks at Florida State Relays

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's outdoor track & field continued its 2012 campaign this past weekend by sending a select number of student-athletes to compete in the Florida State Relays at Mike Long Track in Tallahassee, Fla.

Highlighting the meet for the Colonials were sophomores Chris Carper (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) and Dorian Rumble (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Penn Hills) and junior Collin Ray (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area), who each took home bronze.

Carper finished third in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles thanks to a time of 53.70 seconds, trailing only Trey Charles of Morgan State (51.87) and Tevin Barnett of South Alabama (53.62). The time was good enough to help him qualify for the IC4A/ECAC Championships.

Carper also finished 10th in the 110-meter high hurdles at the FSU Relays thanks to a time of 15.27 seconds.

Ray competed in the shot put, discus and hammer throw this past weekend, earning bronze in the shot put thanks to a toss of 14.97 meters (49'1.50"). Matt Babicz of DePaul won the individual title in the event with a final tally of 16.69 meters (54'9.25"), while Jefferson Butler of Morgan State finished second at 15.63 meters (51'3.50").

Ray also finished fifth in the discus thanks to a toss of 48.09 meters (157'09") on his first throw of the event while taking home seventh in the hammer throw at 43.57 meters (142'11"). Ray's tally in the discus helped him qualify for the IC4A/ECAC Championships in the event.

Rumble finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.37, trailing only Chris Miedema of DePaul (1:52.59) and Lamere Buchanan of Florida A&M (1:53.81).

Also competing in the 800-meter run for RMU at the FSU Relays was sophomore Nicolas Gentile (Sarver, Pa. / Freeport), who earned eighth place thanks to a time of 1:55.49.

Robert Morris continues its 2012 season by taking part in the Eric Kloiber Invitational, which will be hosted by fellow Northeast Conference member Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Md., Saturday, March 31.
