RMU Splits Pair of Northeast Conference Matches

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's tennis team split a pair of Northeast Conference road matches this past weekend, falling, 5-2 at Monmouth Saturday afternoon before rebounding to earn a 5-1 victory at St. Francis (N.Y.) Sunday.

The Colonials enter the final week of the 2011-12 regular season with an overall record of 5-15, including a 1-3 mark in the Northeast Conference.

Against the Hawks, RMU was able to pick up victories at the No. 2 and 3 singles flights.

At No. 2, sophomore Angus Thomson (Kedron, Australia) defeated Laurence Heads, 7-5 and 6-1, while junior Andre Coiro (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) posted a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Carl Jedlinksi at No. 3.

Thomson and Coiro each went 2-0 on the weekend in singles play, as Thomson knocked off James Tsang-Brennan of St. Francis (N.Y.) at the No. 2 singles flight, 6-0 and 6-1, while Coiro came through with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Tita Mba at the No. 3 flight.

Also earning singles victories over the Terriers was junior Jose Limon (Colonia San Jose, Mexico) at No. 1 and junior Tarun Kishan (Mississauga, Ontario / Saint Francis Xavier Secondary) at No. 4.

Limon defeated Danlahdi Robinson, 6-4 and 6-4, while Kishan posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Rafael Angobaldo.

In doubles play at St. Francis (N.Y.), Thomson and Kishan earned an 8-5 win over Robinson and Mba, while Limon and sophomore Ricardo Horlle (Curitiba Parana, Brazil) teamed up for an 8-5 victory over Tsang-Brennan and Alexander Tokarz.

Robert Morris concludes its regular season Wednesday, April 18, with a 3:00 p.m. match at Bucknell before the 2012 Northeast Conference championships this weekend in Princeton, N.J.
