Morton Named NEC Offensive Player of the Week

Moon Township, Pa. - Redshirt junior Dave Morton (Orangeville, Ontario / Hill School) of the Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team was selected as the Northeast Conference (NEC) Offensive Player of the Week in the league's weekly release Monday.

Morton earned the accolade after leading RMU offensively in a 17-14 victory over defending NEC champion Mount St. Mary's.

Morton's first-career weekly award gives Robert Morris its fourth honor in the offensive player of the week category this season, double the total of any other conference team.

Morton becomes the eighth active Colonial to have won a weekly league honor, and his selection also brings the Colonials' season total of weekly awards to eight.

Morton posted a team-high six points in Saturday's victory over the preseason favorite Mountaineers, which clinched the Colonials' second straight trip to the postseason. He notched three goals, including the game-winner, and a trio of assists to post his fifth-consecutive multi-goal game. Morton's fifth career hat trick also moved his career-long point streak to 11 games.

This recent performance for Morton is the latest in a string of strong efforts by the attackman as he has significantly picked up his offensive output in the last half-dozen contests. In his first 29 career games played, Morton had 27 points (13g, 14a). However, in his last six games, Morton has tallied 28 points (15g, 13a), more than doubling his career output.

Morton's efforts in the past few weeks have helped him rapidly climb a few charts in the RMU record book. He currently sits ninth in career assists (27) and is just outside the top 10 in career points. Morton's 2012 assist total has him tied for eighth place in single-season school history, and he also ranks among the top 50 nationally in assists per game.

The Colonials improved to 9-3 with the win and control their own destiny with regard to hosting the upcoming NEC Tournament.

RMU will be off until this coming Saturday, April 21, when they host Quinnipiac for the first time in program history. The opening faceoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
