Trio of Colonials Earn Gold at Eric Kloiber Invite

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's outdoor track & field team continued its 2012 outdoor campaign Saturday by taking part in the Eric Kloiber Invitational, which was hosted by fellow Northeast Conference member Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Md.

A trio of Colonials took home individual championships at the meet, including sophomore Abraham Roy (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area), freshman Tip Worob (Denton, Md. / North Caroline) and junior Brendan Morales (Westminster, Md. / Westminster).

Roy posted the top time in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 50.12 seconds, just inching out sophomore teammate Jermaine Dwight (Wyncote, Pa. / Cheltenham Township), who finished second with a time of 50.14 seconds.

In the 5,000-meter run, Worob claimed gold with a time of 15:27.76, over 10 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor. Worob also finished second in the 1,500-meter run thanks to a time of 4:04.86.

Morales posted the top mark in the shot put at the Eric Kloiber Invitational with a throw of 14.45 meters (47'5"), while junior Charles Thurner-Diaz (Camp Hill, Pa. / Camp Hill) finished second in the event at 14.21 meters (46'7.50").

Thurner-Diaz also finished third in the discus throw with a toss of 42.31 meters (138'10"), while sophomore Kelton Mehls (Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern) finished second in the event with a final tally of 44.58 meters (146'03").

Morales also earned a bronze in the hammer throw thanks to a toss of 46.78 meters (153'06"), while Thurner-Diaz finished fourth in the event with a mark of 45.32 meters (148'08").

In other events for Robert Morris, freshman Grant Kuiawa (Jefferson Hills, Pa. / Thomas Jefferson) finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.76 seconds, while junior Tyler Morton (Silver Spring, Md. / Springbrook) finished fourth at 15.87 seconds.

RMU returns to action Friday, April 6, and Saturday, April 7, with the Colonials Relays in Williamsburg, Va.
