MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. / June 20, 2012 - Robert Morris head women's lacrosse coach Katy Phillips has announced that assistant coach Kari Morrison has resigned her position with the Colonials in order to pursue other opportunities.

"We would like to thank Kari for her many contributions to the RMU women's lacrosse program over the last two years, and we wish her well in the future," Phillips said.

Morrison joined the Robert Morris coaching staff as a graduate assistant in 2011 and helped RMU to its first-ever Northeast Conference postseason berth and a second-place finish in the league. Following the 2011 campaign, Morrison was promoted to an assistant coach for the Colonials. In her tenure with Robert Morris, Morrison helped coach six different players to a total of seven All-NEC honors including two-time honoree Colleen O'Donnell, who led the nation with 55 caused turnovers in 2011 and ranks among the top-ten Colonials all-time in nearly every offensive category.

A 2010 graduate of Virginia Tech, Morrison joined Robert Morris after a very successful playing career with the Hokies. A three-year starter in net for Virginia Tech, Morrison ranks as the program's all-time leader in ground balls and led the nation in regular-season saves in 2008 with 208 stops. Morrison sits second in the Hokies record book in career saves and set the Virginia Tech single-season record for ground balls in 2008 with 65. She also earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team honors in three consecutive seasons. Following her playing career, Morrison spent a season as an undergraduate assistant coach with Virginia Tech.

"I'd like to thank Coach Phillips for the opportunity to coach at Robert Morris over the last two years. I've learned a lot from her on and off the field," Morrison said. "I've enjoyed the privilege of coaching our players, and I wish Robert Morris nothing but the best."

A national search for Morrison's successor will begin immediately.
