Lindenwood Earns Victory Over Robert Morris

Box Score

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's hockey team suffered its third College Hockey America (CHA) loss as the Colonials fell, 5-2 to Lindenwood Friday afternoon at the RMU Island Sports Center.

Sophomore forward Rebecca Vint (Caledon, Ontario / Brampton Jr. Thunder) led the Colonial scoring effort with a goal and one assist in the contest.

RMU scored the opening goal of the game at 8:14 of the first period. Freshman defenseman Megan Eady (Renfrew, Ontario / Nepean Wildcats) passed off to sophomore forward Katie Fergus (Oakville, Ontario / Burlington Jr. Barracudas) in the right faceoff zone. Fergus maneuvered her way around a Lion defender for the initial shot on net. Vint fired the rebounded shot on net to register her 11th goal of the season. The assist is the first of the season for Eady and third for Fergus. Eady's assist marks the second straight game in which a Colonial freshman has tallied a point.

Lindenwood responded the RMU score with back-to-back power play goals seven minutes later. Less than one minute separated the two scores. Sophomore forward Kendra Broad tallied both Lion goals, the first at 15:16 of the first frame and the second at 16:42. Junior forward Jocelyn Slattery notched assists on both scores with defenseman Katie Erickson and forward Lyndsay Kirkham also tallying assists.

The first half of the second period was played evenly by both teams. RMU capitalized on its scoring chances first at 17:54 of the second when junior assistant captain Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) scored her fourth power play goal of the season. Junior defenseman Kylie St. Louis (Windsor, Ontario / Southwest Wildcats) hit Vint with a pass at the point. Vint took the puck to the net and passed off to Imbrogno behind the cage. Imbrogno brought the puck out from behind the net and snipped a shot over the left should of Lindenwood goaltender Nicole Hensley.

The third period proved to be most successful for the Lions as they scored three goals in five minutes, one of which was on an empty net. The third Lindenwood goal came again on a power play at 12:58 of the final period. Sophomore forward Alison Wickenheiser scored her sixth goal of the year while Chelsea Witwicke and Brooke Peden picked up third eighth and second assists of the season.

Less than three minutes later, sophomore assistant captain Alyssa West scored the fourth Lion goal of the contest. Wickenheiser and Allyrson Arcibal were credited with the assists on the score. At 17:52 of the third, Wickenheiser scored her second goal of the contest on an empty.

The shot count for the contest was fairly even as the Lions registered 35 shots with the Colonials registering 34. RMU won 34 of 59 faceoffs and blocked 15 shots on the afternoon.

Robert Morris netminder Kristen DiCiocco (Niagara Falls, Ontario / Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres) received the start in net for the Coloninals. DiCiocco registered 30 saves in the contest, stopping a game-high 15 shots in the first period.

The Colonials are now 5-4-0 in conference play with an overall record of 9-6-2. RMU returns to action in a rematch contest against Lindenwood tomorrow at the RMU Island Sports Center. Puck drop is set for 3:05 p.m.
