RMU Wins Clash of the Colonials

Sophomore Neco Brett scores twice in 2-1 victory.

Washington, D.C. / GW Soccer Field — Sophomore forward Neco Brett (Kingston, Jamaica / Excelsior) continued his goal-scoring onslaught scoring both goals as the Robert Morris University Colonials defeated the George Washington Colonials, 2-1, in Washington, D.C., Saturday afternoon. Robert Morris, winner of four straight games for the first time since 2010, improves to 5-3-2 on the year while George Washington slips to 3-6.
 
Brett has scored the last five goals for RMU, running his season total to nine goals. The Jamaican-striker has seven goals in the last four games coinciding with the team's four-game win streak.
 
Robert Morris, ranked sixth in the NCSAA North Atlantic region, fell behind early on a Tyler Ranalli goal in the fifth minute.
 
RMU knotted the contest in the 23rd minute when senior Luca Campos (Monaca, Pa. / Center) played a cross to the center of the box. Brett controlled the pass before firing the shot past Jean-Pierre van der Merwe from 12 yards away. The game remained 1-1 through the first half.
 
Senior Miro Cabrilo (Hamilton, Ontario / Glendale Secondary) set up the difference making goal in the 74th minute, playing the ball ahead to the feet of Brett. The sophomore beat one defender off the dribble before finding the bottom left corner of the net.
 
Freshman keeper Joseph Kuta (Mississauga, Ontario / St. Joan of Arc) had nine saves to earn his fifth win of the year. van der Merwe had three saves for the host.
 
Robert Morris begins Northeast Conference play with Bryant Friday, Oct. 11. The game is part of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader and will kick-off around 3:00 p.m.
