Schoenecker Earns Shutout In Tie With FDU

Colonials set a team record with their fifth overtime contest.

Box Score

Moon Township, Pa. / North Athletic Complex — The Robert Morris University women's soccer team and Fairleigh Dickinson University were unable to find the back of the net in a 0-0 double-overtime draw at North Athletic Complex Friday afternoon. The Colonials remain unbeaten at home, 3-0-4, and move to 4-9-4 overall and 0-4-3 in Northeast Conference games. The Knights are now 8-6-4 and 4-0-3 in the league.

It was the fifth overtime game of the season for Robert Morris, setting a new team record. Earlier this season, RMU played three consecutive double-overtime games. The Colonials are 0-1-4 in extra session contests.

The Colonials generated their two best chances of the game in the first half. With a strong wind at her back, senior Leah Prentice (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) sent a direct kick at goal from 40 yards. The ball floated toward net and nearly beat Sage DoVale who got just enough of the shot to send it off the crossbar and out of play.

Sophomore Madison Kozlowski (Cranberry Township, Pa. / Seneca Valley) had two chances late in the first half to put RMU on top, but was denied on both shots. Freshman Tess Laux (Polch, Germany / Kürfurst-Balduin-Gymnasium Münstermaifeld) put a shot on net that DoVale parried right back into the box. Kozlowski's rebound attempt was directly into DoVale's chest. The secondary rebound opportunity by Kozlowski was then cleared from the line by a defender.

The Knights best chance to get on the board came late in regulation when Kasey Schiavoni put a long shot on net that was stopped, but not controlled, by junior keeper Becky Schoenecker (Cheswick, Pa. / Fox Chapel). Connie Lewis was first to the rebound and her tough angle shot was just inches high and careened off the crossbar.

DoVale finished the game with five saves for FDU while Schoenecker made three stops in earning her first solo shutout of the year.

Robert Morris wraps up the 2013 season Sunday, Nov. 3, when it hosts Sacred Heart in a Noon game at North Athletic Complex.
