- In a rematch contest against the Lindenwood Lions, the Robert Morris University women's hockey team fell by a 4-2 final
score.
Lindenwood scored the opening goal of the afternoon just
1:41 into the first period. Kendra Broad tallied the even strength score with
Katie Erickson and Caitlyn Post registering assists.
The Colonials returned the favor 5:51 later as junior
assistant captain Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke,
Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) banged
in a shot from in front of the net to tie the contest, 1-1. Junior forward Kristen Richards (Toronto, Ontario /
Niagara University) passed out the primary assist of the first RMU goal
while sophomore forward Rebecca Vint
(Caledon, Ontario / Brampton Jr. Thunder) was awarded with the secondary
assist. The goal marked Imbrogno's 10th of the season as Richards
and Vint tallied their 10th and 15th assists of the year. Imbrogno has now scored three goals in RMU's last four contests.
With 14:18 on the clock, the Lions would regain the lead
after a score by Caitlin Post. The goal marked the first goal of the game and second
point for Post as it was assisted Lyndsay Kirkham and Kendra Broad.
For the second time in less than ten minutes, the
Colonials tied the contest again after an even-strength goal scored by Vint.
After a faceoff won by Richards, Vint maintained control of the puck and found
the net at 16:12 in the first period. The goal and assist marked the second
point of the game for both Vint and Richards. The game-tying goal is Vint's 14th overall
goal of the year as Richards passed out her 11th assist. The multi-point performace is the eighth of the year for Vint and fifth for Richards.
Neither the Colonials or the Lions were able to
capitalize on scoring chances as RMU outshot Lindenwood 10-7 in the second
period. RMU and Lindenwood each had two power play chances throughout the second period.
Less than half way into the final frame, Lindenwood ended
the scoring drought to take a 3-2 lead and tally the game-winning goal at
11:38 of the third period. Brett Lobreau registered the goal for the Lions
while Alyssa West and Alison Wickenheiser notched the first and secondary
assists.
Lindenwood scored an empty net goal with less than a
minute remaining to beat the Colonials by a 4-2 final score.
Robert Morris outshot Lindenwood 51-22 in the game while
winning 34 of 58 faceoffs.
Senior goalie Delayne Brian (Winnipeg, Manitoba / Wayne State University) earned the start
between the pipes for Robert Morris. Brian tallied 18 saves in the afternoon
match.
The Colonials return home next weekend as they host
College Hockey America (CHA) member Penn State. Puck drop is slated for 7:05
p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22 and 3:05 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23. Before Saturday
afternoon's contest, RMU will be honoring the class of 2013 for Senior Day.
