Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's indoor track & field team finished fifth out of eight teams in the Youngstown State National Invite this past weekend.
The Colonials had three student-athletes finish in the top three of their events, including senior Collin Ray (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area), who finished second in the shot put with a throw of 16.11 meters (52'10.25").
Led by Ray's efforts, RMU performed well in the throwing events. Junior Stephen Mitchell's (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic) throw of 15.78 meters (51'09.25") in the shot put slotted him right behind Ray with a third-place finish, while senior Brendan Morales (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) finished sixth with a toss of 15.57 meters (51'1.00").
In addition, senior Chuck Thurner-Diaz (Camp Hill, Pa. / Camp Hill) brought home a fifth-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 15.85 meters (52'0.00").
The triple jump saw two Colonials place, led by senior Lance Washington's (East Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg) fourth-place mark. His jump of 13.77 meters (45'2.25") just topped his teammate Richard Njenga's (Ephrata, Pa. / Ephrata) fifth-place leap of 13.72 meters (45'2.25").
Junior Jermaine Dwight (Wyncote, Pa. / Cheltenham Township) finished third in the 500-meter with a time of 1:06.04, while sophomore Malcolm Ayers (Clarksburg, Md. / Clarksburg) placed sixth with a time of 1:05.75.
RMU will travel to Landover, Md. this weekend to compete in the Northeast Conference Championships.
