RMU Concludes Homestand with Win Over Red Flash

The Robert Morris University men's tennis team wrapped up a four-match homestand at the North Athletic Complex Tuesday with a 4-3 victory over fellow Northeast Conference foe Saint Francis U.

The Colonials finished 2-2 on their homestand after dropping 4-3 decisions to Mount St. Mary's, Sunday afternoon, and Coppin State, Monday.

RMU owns an overall record of 4-14 thanks to the win over the Red Flash.

Senior Andre Coiro (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) continued his late season surge for Robert Morris, pushing his winning streak to five after earning a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Chris Jimenez at the No. 5 singles flight.

Coiro evened his overall record in dual matches at 9-9 thanks to the win over Jimenez, including a perfect 3-0 mark against league opponents.

Coiro also earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Mike Zabetakis of Mount St. Mary's at the No. 5 flight while moving up two slots to No. 3 against Coppin State and posting a 6-4 and 6-1 victory.

Also against Saint Francis U., junior Angus Thomson (Kedron, Australia) posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Andres Rosa at the No. 2 singles flight, while senior Jose Limon (Colonia San Jose, Mexico) defeated Sergio Carvajal at No. 3, 6-2 and 6-1.

The Colonials also earned the doubles point against the Red Flash thanks to victories at the No.1 and No. 3 flights.

At No. 1, Thomson and senior Tarun Kishan (Mississauga, Ontario / Saint Francis Xavier Secondary) teamed up for an 8-6 win over Washi Gervais and Carvajal.

Coiro and Limon, meanwhile, defeated Jimenez and Juan Pardo, 8-6. Coiro and Limon also defeated Zabetkais and Austin Blake of the Mount, 6-2 and 6-3, at the No. 3 doubles flight before moving up a flight to No. 2 to win, 8-2, over Tre'vonne Peyton and Patrick Thomas of the Eagles.

Also against the Eagles Monday, freshman Juan Andres Hirmas (Padre Las Casas, Chile) defeated Roderick Peyton, 6-3 and 6-3, at the fourth singles, while freshman Fernando Leite (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Thomas at No. 5.

Against the Mount Sunday, Thomson defeated Adam Salam, at the No. 2 singles flight in three sets, 6-7 (5-7), 6-5 and 7-6 (7-5).

Robert Morris is next in action Wednesday, April 17, with a 3:00 p.m. match at Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa.
