Niagara Falls, N.Y. / Niagara Falls C.C. – Freshmen Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and Gianna Pro (Harrison City, Pa. / Penn Trafford) are in the top-10 after the open 18 holes of the Niagara Purple Eagles Women's Invitational with one round to play.
Morell's 79 on the par 72, 5,856-yar layout at Niagara Falls Country Club put her in fifth place and was the lowest score by a Colonials player. She is just two strokes off the lead. Pro came through with an 81, putting her into a tie for seventh place and has her in prime position to collect her third top-10 finish of her rookie campaign.
Senior Jenna Rinker (Slippery Rock, Pa. / Slippery Rock) is all alone in 13th place after an 83. Junior Annie Bozich (Aliquippa, Pa. / Center) and sophomore Sarah Weber (Hudson, Ohio / Hudson) used 91 strokes to finish their first rounds. That puts them into a tie for 34th.
Playing as individuals, sophomore Tori Zachman (Hampstead, Md. / North Carroll) carded an 89 to put her in 22nd while senior Tess Wolfe (Beaver Falls, Pa. / Blackhawk) was the third RMU player to fire a 91.
The second and final round goes off with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.
