Moon Township, Pa. – Former
Robert Morris University men's lacrosse midfielder
Mike Grosz was recently named to the Israel national team which will compete with 37 other nations in the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships.
This doesn't mark Grosz's first appearance with Team Israel, as the former Colonial midfielder played in 19 games – including tournaments in Istanbul and Amsterdam – with the national team in 2012. Grosz tallied 37 points (27 goals, 10 assists) that summer, including Israel's first-ever international goal.
Grosz donned the familiar Robert Morris colors from 2009-12 and is the program's all-time leader in ground balls (257) and ground balls per game (5.04). The former midfielder also holds the top mark in single-season ground balls (113) and face-off wins (182), and set single-game records for face-off wins (28) and ground balls (18) in a March, 3, 2012 contest against Colgate. In his senior campaign, Grosz earned All-Northeast Conference (NEC) honors as a specialist.
The FIL World Championships is held every four years and will take place this year in Denver, Colo. from July 10-19. The United States is the reigning champions, defeating Canada 12-10 in 2010 at Manchester, England.
Under the direction of third-year head coach
Andrew McMinn, the Colonials finished last season at 8-7, marking the fifth-straight season that RMU has ended the year with a winning record. Robert Morris earned its first post-season win in program history and advanced to its first NEC Championship Game in 2013.
