Moon Township, Pa. – Freshman midfielder
Greer Monahan, a midfielder on the
Robert Morris University women's soccer team, was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. Monahan is the second different Colonials to earn the honor. An RMU player has won the award in three of the five weeks this season.
Monahan's first career goal proved to be the game-winner as RMU snapped a seven-game winless skid with a 1-0 victory at Canisius Saturday. The rookie's eighth-minute tally was unassisted as she intercepted a goal kick before beating the Griffs keeper. The kick was short and Monahan was able to collect the ball and deposit it in the back of net before the defense could recover. Monahan has started six of the eight games of her rookie season.
The Colonials return to the pitch this Tuesday, Sept. 23, when they host the Howard Bison in a 4:00 p.m. game at North Athletic Complex.
