Moon Township, Pa. – Robert Morris University head rowing coach
Nelle Stahura announced Wednesday the hiring of
Carol Schoenecker as an assistant coach with the program.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to have Carol on board as an assistant coach," Stahura said. "Aside from a wealth of experience as both a student-athlete and coach, Carol brings great life experience to her new role. Most importantly, Carol's values and coaching philosophy mesh perfectly with our program. More than just rowing, we strive to develop our student-athletes into strong, capable and outwardly focused young women during their time with us. Carol's passion for this particular mission makes her the perfect fit for RMU and our program."
Schoenecker has spent the past two years as a teacher at Tensas Elementary School in St. Joseph, La., but is no stranger to rowing. Prior to going into teaching, Schoenecker spent three years as an assistant coach at Duquesne from 2011 to 2014.
During her time with the Dukes, Schoenecker designed and implemented the training program for over 60 varsity and novice student-athletes. She also coached the Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four to third-place finishes at the Atlantic 10 Championships as well as the Novice Four to bronze at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa.
In 2013, Schoenecker earned a Master of Arts degree in Social and Public Policy with a concentration in peace studies and conflict resolution from Duquesne. In addition to her coaching duties with the Dukes, Schoenecker spent two summers in Philadelphia, Pa., coaching the junior women with the Penn Athletic Club Rowing Association.

In 2008, she also competed at the Women's Henley Regatta in England.
Schoenecker is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., and competed with Fox Chapel Crew Club prior to her collegiate career. Her sister, Becky, was a four-year letterwinner with the Robert Morris soccer team and also spent a year with the lacrosse program.
Led by Stahura, RMU placed
sixth at the 2016 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships in West Windsor, N.J., compiling 31 points.
