Moon Township, Pa. – Robert Morris University head coach
John Banaszak announced that quarterback Jimmy Walker has chosen to continue his football career with the Colonials. Walker, a native of Redlands, Calif., spent last season at San Diego State after two seasons at Cerritos College. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"We're excited to add Jimmy to the competition at the quarterback position," said RMU offensive coordinator
Mike Miller. "He's a guy that brings some experience, having played two years at a junior college in California and had a chance to walk on to an FBS Division I program at San Diego State. He got the chance to prepare at that level and also the experience of playing in a bowl game."
In two seasons at Cerritos, Walker finished his career as one of the most prolific quarterbacks in school history. He holds the career records for passing yards (5,320) and touchdowns (55) as well as the top two passing seasons in school history. He also owns the career marks for passes attempted and completed. The 6'2", 215-pound Walker threw for 2,323 yards as a freshman before topping that number with 2,997 yards in in 2015. He has three of the top-five single game passing totals in team history and threw four of more touchdowns in four games.
"He's a tough competitor, really smart quarterback, shows poise in the pocket, can make all the throws and has good accuracy at all levels," said Miller. "I think he's a leader, he's shown to be a good teammate and a real student of the game. He's hungry to compete and we're looking forward to seeing what he can add at the position and to the offense."
At Redlands High School, Walker was an all-league, all-county, all-area and all-academic honoree. During his senior campaign, he threw for 1,850 yards and 17 touchdowns to earn All-Citrus Belt League First Team honors. Walker totaled over 4,000 yards in his high school career accumulating over 1,000 yards in each of his four years. Walker was also a member of the Redlands baseball team.
