Somerset, N.J. – Sophomore goalkeeper
Alex Heger of the
Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team was named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced the league Monday afternoon.
This is the second NEC Defensive Player of the Week nod for Heger this season, and his third career weekly honor from the conference.
Heger made a career-high 20 saves and allowed just seven goals in RMU's 13-7 win at Saint Joseph's last Saturday. The sophomore held SJU scoreless in the second quarter, and limited the Hawks to just four goals in the second half, as the Colonials improved to 3-0 in NEC play. His seven goals allowed marked a career-low in a conference start, and his performance marked the second time in his last three outings that he held an opponent to single-digit scoring.
Heger's 20 saves also rank fifth all-time on Robert Morris' single-game list. The Carmel, Indiana, native leads the NEC in save percentage (.587) and saves per game (13.20).
Robert Morris returns home to host Wagner on Saturday, April 8 at 1 p.m. in Joe Walton Stadium. RMU will host a Youth Day in conjunction with the NEC matchup. The first 150 fans will receive a collapsible laundry hamper, courtesy of Dick's Sporting Goods. A longest throw halftime competition will be open to youth lacrosse players in grades K through eighth. A post-game autograph session will be held on the field. Admission is free to all fans.
