Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University rowing team continued its 2017 spring campaign Sunday by taking part in the Occoquan Sprints in Fairfax Station, Va.
The Varsity 8 claimed victory in the second heat to advance to the final, posting a time of 7:58.99 and outlasting Army (8:01.87) and VCU (8:30.95). In the finals, the Colonials claimed fourth and just missed bronze. RMU posted a time of 7:41.47 in the finals, just trailing Loyola (7:41.14).
Serving as the coxswain of the Varsity 8 was freshman

"This weekend's racing saw a lot of great progress for each of our boats," head coach
Nelle Stahura said. "The Varsity 8 especially took some big leaps in the right direction with a solid win in their heat and a fight for fourth overall. We're looking forward to hopefully getting a little bit of time on the water before racing again next weekend."

The RMU Second Varsity 8 boat finished third in the finals, recording a time of 8:09.44. Sophomore
Sarah Heastings was the coxswain, and in the boat for the Colonials was sophomores

The Robert Morris Varsity 4 finished with a time of 10:02.89 in the finals after posting a time of 9:45.12 in its heat. The boat featured freshman
Sophie Carroll, sophomore
Alyssa VanAuken and freshmen
Brianna Proctor and
Nicole Olinger, while freshman
Brittany Bell was the coxswain.
In Novice 4 action, the Colonials posted a time of 9:31.35. Cottrell was the coxswain, and joining her in the boat was Daman, senior
Rebekah Landers, Falcone and freshman
Kari Campbell.
"It was awesome to see all of our student-athletes advance to the grand finals," assistant coach
Carol Schoenecker said. "The Novice 4, in particular, raced a strong and consistent race to post the third fastest time of the day. We look forward to getting a solid two weeks of water time before our next race."
The Colonials return to the water Saturday, April 15, by competing in the Kerr Cup in Philadelphia, Pa.
