MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- For the third consecutive week, a member of the
Robert Morris volleyball team has won the Molten/NEC Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week award, adding further prestige to the Colonials' historic eight-player freshman class.
First-year outside hitter
Alyson Londot received the honor Monday, supplanting two-time winner and teammate
Emma Granger. The 5'10" Utica High School (Utica, Ohio) product doubled her season high with 30 digs in a 3-1 victory (19-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-22) over Saint Francis University at DeGol Arena in RMU's conference opener last Friday.
Her stellar defensive effort was one of several by Robert Morris (7-9, 1-0) in a noteworthy comeback against the Red Flash (6-8, 0-1), as the Colonials won despite losing the first set for just the second time this season. Londot, who also finished with nine kills and 9.0 points, helped even the match for RMU by scattering four of those kills over the second set.
Currently, Londot ranks second on the team, as well as tenth in the Northeast Conference, with 2.74 kills per set. She also ranks second on the Colonials with 151 digs on the year, having appeared in 58 of 61 total sets for them this season.
Londot, named an NEC Prime Performer for the first time, also chipped in two assists at SFU for the first multi-helper match of her young collegiate career.
Robert Morris, which seeks its unprecedented 19th straight winning season in NEC play, returns home for back-to-back conference matches this weekend. RMU hosts Sacred Heart (7-6, 1-0) for a 7:00 p.m. first serve on "Class of 2021 Night," then Fairleigh Dickinson (3-12, 0-1) at 5:00 p.m. Saturday.
