Moon Township, Pa. – The 28th annual class of inductees into the
Robert Morris University Athletic Hall of Fame is comprised of five former student-athletes and one team, each of whom left an indelible mark on their respective programs.
The five new members to join the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame as the Class of 2018 include
Velton Jones (men's basketball; 2008-13),
Courtney Lenart (women's track & field; 2002-07),
Sade Logan (women's basketball; 2007-09),
Denny Urban (men's ice hockey; 2007-11) and
Hannah Veith (volleyball; 2008-11).
In addition to the five former student-athletes that comprise the latest class, the Robert Morris 1993 men's soccer team will also be inducted as part of the Class of 2018.
Each of the inductees will by formally inducted at the sixth annual RMU Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner, which will take place Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport. Public recognition of the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2018 takes place at halftime of the RMU men's basketball game against Central Connecticut Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019.
The RMU Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1991 to honor those who have made an outstanding contribution to Robert Morris University athletics. Nominations are solicited and individuals selected by the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame committee. Players, coaches and administrators are eligible five years after they have concluded their career at Robert Morris.
The Class of 2018 brings membership in the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame to 132 individuals and three teams. A closer look at each of the new members of the Robert Morris Athletic Hall of Fame:
Velton Jones
Men's Basketball
2008-13
During his four years on the active roster with the Colonials, Jones, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., led Robert Morris to an overall record of 91-50 (.645), as he is part of the most successful class in program history. He owns RMU career records for games played (135), starts (125), consecutive games played (121), free throws (495) and free-throw attempts (688). He became the ninth player in Northeast Conference history, including the first from Robert Morris, to eclipse career totals of 1,500 points and 500 assists, finishing second all-time program history in assists (551) and fifth in points (1,588). A two-time All-NEC First Team selection (2012, 2013), Jones helped lead the Colonials to three postseason appearances in four years, including the 2010 NCAA Tournament, the 2012 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) and the 2013 National Invitation Tournament (NIT). In the 2013 NIT, he contributed eight points and five assists in a 59-57 win over Kentucky in front of 3,444 fans at the Charles L. Sewall Center, arguably the biggest win in school history.
Courtney Lenart
Track & Field
2002-07
Lenart was a two-time Northeast Conference champion in the javelin, winning back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005 with distances of 45.13 and 46.14 meters, respectively. She also competed at the NCAA East Regional Championships in the javelin in each of her four years with the program, posting her highest finish of 16th in both 2005 and 2007. Lenart, a native of Leetsdale, Pa., concluded her career having scored 52 career points at the NEC outdoor championships, which ranks third in school history.
Sade Logan
Women's Basketball
2007-09
Arguably the purest scorer in the history of Robert Morris basketball, in two seasons with the Colonials after transferring from Chattanooga State Logan scored 1,314 points in 57 games, an average of 23.1 points per contest. Selected as the 2008 Northeast Conference Player of the Year, Logan, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., led the Colonials in scoring (24.7 ppg) in helping lead RMU to its second consecutive NEC Tournament title and subsequent berth in the NCAA Tournament. In 2007-08, Logan connected for 126 three-pointers, which tied an NCAA single-season record. That season Logan also scored 815 points, an RMU single-season school mark. She was a two-time All-NEC First Team selection (2008, 2009) and earned All-NEC Tournament Team accolades in 2008.
Denny Urban
Men's Ice Hockey
2007-11
In 136 games with the Colonials, Urban scored 112 points thanks to 28 goals and 84 assists, a program record for points by a defenseman. After being named to the 2008 All-College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie Team, Urban was a three-time all-conference honoree, earning All-CHA honors in 2009 and 2010 and All-Atlantic Hockey accolades in 2011. Urban, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., ranks seventh all-time in scoring at Robert Morris, while his assist total ranks fourth. During his senior season in 2010-11, Urban scored eight goals and established an RMU single-season record for assists with 32, a mark that has since been broken.
Hannah Veith
Volleyball
2008-11
Another in a long line of stellar middle blockers at Robert Morris, Veith was a two-time All-Northeast Conference First Team selection (2010, 2011). She concluded her career with totals of 1,048 kills, a .354 attack percentage and 422 total blocks. She ranks second in career attack percentage and fourth in blocks. As a senior in 2011, Veith posted an attack percentage of .375, which ranks second in school history and was the highest mark by an RMU student-athlete since Rachel Leitch (2001-04), a Class of 2010 inductee into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame, established the single-season school record of .422 in 2004. Also in 2011, Veith was selected as the NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in volleyball.
1993 Men's Soccer
Robert Morris posted an overall record of 14-7-1 (.659) in 1993 and tied for third in the Northeast Conference with a 5-3 (.625) ledger. Included among the victories for the Colonials in 1993 was a 1-0 win at No. 25 Miami (Ohio) as well as a 1-0 conquest at Wake Forest in which Chris Hultquist (RMU Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2009) scored at the 82:56 mark to lift RMU to the win. In the NEC Tournament, Robert Morris opened with a 3-2 victory over Monmouth, then earned a 2-0 win over LIU Brooklyn to claim the tournament title and became the first team at Robert Morris other than men's basketball to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. That squad was led by Troy Fabiano (RMU Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2001), who finished with 19 goals and five assists for 43 points, which ranks second in the Robert Morris single-season record book. In addition to Fabiano and Hultquist, other former student-athletes from that squad enshrined in the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame include Marco Patitucci (2010), Doug Petras (2000) and Musa Shannon (2002) as well as head coach
John Kowalski (2000). The 1993 men's soccer squad joins the 1982-83 men's basketball team and the 1994 softball squad to be inducted into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame.
