MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Youth volleyball players in western Pennsylvania and beyond who are serious about competing at the next level and think they have what it takes to do so are encouraged to join the coaching staff of the
Robert Morris University volleyball team at the UPMC Events Center July 14-17, 2019 for the annual Robert Morris Volleyball Camps.
Led by head coach
Dale Starr, the winningest coach in the history of the NCAA Division I program at RMU, a Colonial camp experience has traditionally promised both education and enjoyment. Under Starr, the Colonials have made seven Northeast Conference Tournaments, won the NEC Tournament title in 2015 to clinch an NCAA Tournament berth and posted eight years of winning records in NEC play.
A large portion of Starr's success after 20-plus years of collegiate coaching experience altogether has been attributed to his infectious energy and love of the game. He and his staff use that same enthusiasm to conduct their camps.
This summer, they will start with the Elite Skills Camp for players in grades 10-12, which begins with a 6:00-9:00 p.m. EDT session Sun., July 14 and continues through a 2:00-5:00 p.m. session Wed., July 17. This coincides with the All Skills Camp for players ages 8-17, a series of 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00-4:00 p.m. sessions Mon., July 15 through that Wednesday, with lunch breaks in between.
The Elite Skills Camp is designed for any and all female entrants ages 15-18 and will teach and reinforce players the advanced skills of volleyball in all aspects of the game. This camp is a must for girls who are elite volleyball players striving to be the best and take their game to the next level.
Athletes will be individually instructed on how to serve, serve receive, forearm pass, set, attack, and block. In addition, campers will learn attack coverage, team defense, team reception and team transition.
The All Skills camp focuses on all aspects of the game, with emphasis on fundamentals. Sessions focus on improving individual aspects (passing, setting, digging, etc.) at all levels through the use of skill specific training, while incorporating games and competitive play which will cover offensive and defensive systems.
That camp costs $180.00 per participant, while the Elite Skills Camp costs $295.00 for commuters and $385.00 for overnight campers.
In accordance with NCAA guidelines, all Robert Morris University Sports Camps and Clinics are open to any and all entrants, limited only by specified number, age, grade level and/or gender of its participants.
The state-of-the-art, 4,000-seat UPMC Events Center is a cornerstone of the university's strategic plan and replaces the Charles L. Sewall Center for Leadership (a.k.a. "The Chuck"), which served as the permanent home of Colonials volleyball 1985-2017. The new arena, which provides improved strength and conditioning facilities, locker rooms and a full practice court, will serve as the team's new on-campus home beginning with the 2019 season.
