MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- In the final series of Northeast Conference weekly awards for the regular season, the Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team was again well-represented.
On Monday afternoon, junior defender
Kelly Colegrove was named the NEC co-Defensive Player of the Week, sharing the prize with Mount St. Mary's goalkeeper Jillian Petito.
Colegrove set season highs with six ground balls and five caused turnovers in the Colonials' 18-5 Sunday victory over Central Connecticut at Joe Walton Stadium. Counting her output in a 12-11 win against Bryant on Friday, Colegrove caused nine turnovers and picked up nine ground balls.
On the season, the native of Marriottsville, Maryland, has caused 2.69 turnovers per game, the best mark in the NEC and the fifth-highest rate in all of Division I women's lacrosse. Her 43 total caused turnovers is currently tied for the second-highest for a single season in program history, with only Colleen O'Donnell's 55 in 2011 ahead of her.
An All-NEC First Team selection last season, Colegrove will have a chance to add to her résumé this week as the Colonials return to the NEC tournament for the sixth consecutive year. Third-seeded RMU (12-4, 5-2 NEC) will take on No. 2 seed Wagner in the single-elimination semifinal round Thursday on the campus of regular-season champion Mount St. Mary's. First draw in Emmitsburg, Maryland, is set for 11 a.m.
Also this week, junior attacker
Mackenzie Gandy was named an NEC Prime Performer for her 10-point performance in the Colonials' final two regular-season games. Gandy racked up six goals and four assists over the weekend as RMU set a new program record for wins in a season. Gandy has 43 goals and 64 total points, ranking third all-time in the program's single-season records in both categories.
Colegrove's selection makes it six Colonials to earn NEC weekly awards this season. Gandy has been Player of the Week twice, goalie
Katelyn Miller has been Defensive POW twice;
Clio Kerr (DPOW),
Melanie Gandy (POW) and
Kerri Sayrafe (POW) are one-time winners this spring.
