Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University women's basketball program has announced an addition to its 2020-21 schedule, as it is now set to open the new campaign with a non-conference contest against Norfolk State at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 from the UPMC Events Center.
This will be the third meeting in the all-time series between RMU and Norfolk State, with the Colonials owning a 2-0 advantage. The teams clashed last December in one of the most exciting games of the 2019-20 season, as RMU made up a 13-point third-quarter deficit to ultimately defeat the Spartans in overtime, 69-62. The Colonials finished that contest a perfect 7-of-7 on three-pointers in the final 15 minutes, highlighted by Honoka Ikematsu's 15-point effort – nine of which came in the additional frame. RMU also has a 79-69 win at home in this series, accomplished on Dec. 4, 2005.

Norfolk State was selected to top the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division in the league's annual preseason poll after finishing 19-11 overall (12-4 MEAC) in 2019-20. The Spartans have played two games so far, going 1-1 with a 96-66 win over Salem University and a 47-67 loss at UNC Wilmington.
The RMU Department of Athletics announced Monday that it extended its pause on fan attendance at competitive events through Dec. 31, 2020. A determination regarding home games in January will be made at a later date. RMU fans can stream the action all season long through the official RMU Athletics Gameday App. To download the app, use this link and stay up-to-date with RMU Athletics.
Yesterday it was announced that the RMU-Cleveland State Horizon League series, scheduled for Dec. 12-13, has been canceled due to a positive test within the Vikings' program. The Colonials are working with the league about potentially replacing the series with another conference opponent, and a decision regarding adding additional non-conference games will be made in the near future.
Beginning its inaugural season in the Horizon League, RMU was tabbed to finish fifth in the coaches' preseason rankings and is in the midst of its greatest run in program history. The Colonials, who return five players who started 15 or more games in 2019-20 and 10 letterwinners overall, have gone 92-37 (.713) under Buscaglia's tenure, capturing four NEC regular-season championships, two NEC Tournament crowns, a pair of NCAA Tournament berths, and a Postseason Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) bid since 2016-17.
