Colonials Welcome Three To Spring Squad

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's soccer team today announced the signings of three new players for the spring 2022 semester.

Chase Gilley, Logan Gilley, and William Dodzi Afawubo will all join Head Coach Jason O'Keefe's squad this spring, and will help bolster the depth of a Colonials program fresh off of its first ever Horizon League postseason appearance last November.

Twin brothers hailing from Iron Station, North Carolina, Logan and Chase Gilley arrive in Moon Township with three years of eligibility after spending the spring and fall 2021 campaigns at UNC Greensboro where both established themselves as impact players.

After making his debut with a goal in his rookie year in the spring of 2021, Chase followed up the effort with three goals and eight points in 14 appearances for UNCG last fall, helping lead the Spartans to a Southern Conference regular season conference championship.

"Just like his brother, Chase is an attacking player who can play a variety of positions," head coach Jason O'Keefe said.  "He is very clinical in front of the goal, and has great movement to get in behind the opponent. We are extremely excited for him to be a part of the RMU family, and we can't wait to see what he can do on the field".

Logan joins his brother after 13 career appearances over two seasons for UNCG as well, bringing more offensive pedigree to RMU after the Spartans ended last season as the national leader in corner kicks per game (8.00), goal differential (38), points per game (8.39), scoring offense (2.89).

"Logan is a player we've known for a while, and we're extremely excited to be adding him to our family," O'Keefe said.  "He has the ability to play anywhere across the front three as he is very good in one-on-one situations, and has an eye for goal. He has scored a bagful of goals at every level he's played at, and we're excited to see what he can do as a Colonial."

William Dodzi Afawubo rounds out the trio of new additions for the Colonials.

A center-back hailing from Accra, Ghana, Dodzi was selected to play on both the U16 and U20 Ghana National Teams and will help strengthen the Colonials backline as he continues his development at RMU after coming over from St. Thomas Aquinas and the Phoenix Academy club program.

"William is top prospect coming from Ghana," O'Keefe said.  "We have been working on him for a while now, and we are pleased he is finally a part of our family. He is center-back who is very good in one-on-one situations, and is a dominant presence in the air. He has untapped ability and we are excited to work with him".

RMU finished 4-5-1 in Horizon League play last season and qualified for their first ever HL postseason appearance in their second year of membership.
