Yessie Valencia of the RMU track & field was tabbed the Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week Tuesday.
Fresh off a
#HLTF indoor championship in the weight throw, Valencia opened her final spring campaign by
winning the discus at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational. She unleashed a toss of 49.97 meters (163'11") to claim gold and also extend her Gesling Stadium record. Last season at the same meet, Valencia posted a throw of 47.67 meters (156'5") to also finish first, marking back-to-back years she won the discus at the CMU Invitational.
In addition to her performance in the discus, Valencia finished fourth in the shot put at 12.15 meters (39'10.50") as well as seventh in the hammer throw at 43.96 meters (144'3"). Among Horizon League leaders early in the 2022 outdoor season, Valencia owns the top performance of the year in the discus while ranking third in the shot put and fourth in the hammer throw.

Bryan Delsite, the Colonials return to action Saturday, April 2, by competing in the Mountaineer Classic in Morgantown, W.Va., at The Track & Field Complex at Mylan Park.
