Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU track & field team continued its 2022 outdoor season Saturday, with a pair of school records falling at the Mountaineer Classic in Morgantown, W.Va., at The Track & Field Complex at Mylan Park.
IN A ZONE
Senior
Tara Gologram added another program record to her tally Saturday, as she has now broken the school record in the
long jump in both indoor and outdoor in less than two months. She took home gold Saturday in the event at the Mountaineer Classic with a leap of 5.98 meters (19'7.50"), smashing the old mark of 18'10.50" that was set by Melitta Brown (2006-10) at the 2008 Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships. Gologram actually broke the record on her fourth leap of the event at 5.97 meters but on her fifth settled at 5.98 before passing on her final attempt.
SILVER AND GOLD
Also in the long jump, freshman
Rayna Todero claimed silver at 5.29 meters (17'4.25"), while Tara's sister, freshman
Zoee Gologram, finished third at 5.13 meters (16'10"). Todero won the individual championship Saturday in the triple jump, posting a leap of 11.45 meters (37'6.75") on her fourth attempt.
RECORD BREAKER PART DEUX
While
Tara Gologram broke an individual record that had stood for almost 15 years Saturday, she was also part of RMU's 4x100-meter relay team that set a new program best and snapped a record that stood for nearly a quarter of a century. The Colonials clocked in at 47.23 seconds, breaking the old mark of 47.55 that was originally established at the 1998 ECAC Championships.
Tara Gologram ran the opening leg, and she was joined by junior
Elicia Moore and rookies
Hannah McDanel and
Maddie Raymond. The team claimed gold, outlasting John Carroll, which clocked in at 48.41 seconds.
HAMMER TIME
Friday in the throws, fifth-year
Keturah Hunter earned the individual title in the hammer throw at the Mountaineer Classic. She recorded a distance of 47.54 meters (156'0"). Fellow fifth-year
Yessie Valencia earned silver at 42.26 meters (138'8"), while fifth-year
Estelle Katende earned bronze at 41.81 meters (137'2").
THROW DOWN
Also winning a title in the throws for RMU at the Mountaineer Classic was rookie
Maizee Fry in the shot put and sophomore
Sierra Hillman in the javelin. Competing unattached, Fry posted a throw of 12.73 meters (41'9.25") in the shot put to outlast teammate
Alijah Caul, who notched a distance of 11.42 meters (37'5.75"). In the same event, Valencia finished third at 10.96 meters (35'11.50"). Hillman, meanwhile, finished at 36.51 (119'9") to win the javelin, while
Zoee Gologram placed second at 34.49 meters (113'2").
TWO-FOR-TWO
Finally in the throws for the Colonials at the Mountaineer Classic, Valencia earned her second consecutive individual title to open up the outdoor season in the discus. On her fourth attempt of the event she uncorked a distance of 48.88 meters (160'4"), which stood as the top mark. Katende earned silver in the event at 44.35 meters (145'6"). All told, the Colonials earned individual championships in the hammer throw, discus, shot put and javelin at the Mountaineer Classic.
TRACK ME DOWN
In addition to anchoring RMU's 4x100-meter relay that set a school record, Raymond finished first in the 100-meter dash Saturday, crossing the finish line in 12.32 seconds.
Tara Gologram finished right behind Raymond for silver at 12.38, while McDanel placed third with a time of 12.56 seconds.

RMU heads to Fairfax, Va., for its next competition, taking part in the George Mason Invitational Saturday, April 9.
