Josh Nagy of the RMU men's golf team was named to the 2022 All-Horizon League Second Team Friday in a vote of league head coaches. Nagy is the first student-athlete for the Colonials in program history to garner #HLGOLF postseason honors.
During the 2021-22 season, Nagy led the Colonials with a stroke average of 73.32, which ranks second in the RMU single-season record book. Only C.G. Mercatoris (2007-11) posted a better season according to stroke average, averaging 72.80 during the 2010-11 season.
Nagy burst onto the scene for RMU at the Towson Fall Invitational (10/23/22), when he recorded
seven birdies at Prospect Bay Country Club in the opening round en route to a 65 (-7). He became the fourth different student-athlete to card a 65, the lowest round in school history. The seven strokes under par for Nagy at the Towson Fall Invitational established a new RMU record, as the previous three Colonials that posted a 65 each finished five strokes under par.
In nine events during the 2021-22 campaign, Nagy finished in the top five a total of five times, tying a school mark that was previously accomplished by
Max Palmer (2016-20) during the 2018-19 season. He ended up finishing second at the Towson Fall Invitational and also tied for second at the Metro Intercollegiate Championships (11/1/21). Nagy also earned third place at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational (10/5/21), the Carpetbagger Classic (3/20/22) and Wright State Invitational (4/17/22).
The exploits of Nagy helped RMU conclude the 2021-22 season with a four-player stroke average of 297.1, which is just the third time the Colonials have finished with an average under 300. RMU set the school record in 2014-15 at 296.7, bettering its mark from the previous season when the Colonials finished at 299.4.
Nagy enters the 2022-23 season with a career scoring average of 75.01, which ranks fourth all-time at RMU. One spot behind Nagy in fifth is his teammate,
Chase Miller, who has averaged 75.66 during his tenure with the Colonials.
