RMU Collects GCAA Academic Team Award

Colonials earn honor for 10th consecutive year under head coach Jerry Stone

Charlotte, N.C. – For the 10th consecutive year, the RMU men's golf team was recognized for its excellence in the classroom as it was bestowed with the Team Academic Award from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Monday.

The Colonials recorded a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.18 for the 2021-22 academic year, surpassing the GPA of 3.00 that is required for GCAA Team Academic Award recognition. The team honor for RMU comes on the heels of rising senior Alex Seelig being named a 2021-22 Srixon/Cleveland Golf NCAA Division I All-American Scholar.

RMU was one of four Horizon League institutions to earn the 2021-22 GCAA Team Academic Award, joining Detroit Mercy, Purdue Fort Wayne and Green Bay. Posting the top GPA for the Colonials during the 2021-22 academic year was redshirt junior Cole Chase, who notched a 3.93 GPA as a finance major. Rising senior Parker Johnson, meanwhile, finished with a 3.87 GPA in 2021-22 as a marketing major.

Led by head coach Jerry Stone, who will enter his 23rd season leading the Colonials in 2022-23, RMU has won 23 competitions and earned automatic bids to a pair of NCAA Regionals (2015, 2019).
