Opening Faceoff
- The Robert Morris University women's hockey team will host Syracuse for a two-game series on Friday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, November 4 at 3:00 p.m.
- For Saturday's game, RMU women's hockey along with Syracuse women's hockey will join forces and partner with the Sticks Together foundation. The not-for-profit foundation was started by Syracuse's Sarah Thompson. The goal of the foundation is to provide necessary resources to give children in underprivileged communities the opportunity to learn and play hockey. Current RMU hockey student-athlete Madison Primeau joined the Sticks Together team when she was a player at Syracuse, prior to transferring to RMU. The purpose of Saturday's event will be to help bring awareness to the foundation and assist Sticks Together take a trip to Palwan, Philippines in May/June of 2024.
- Last time out, the Colonials split their series at Mercyhurst, dropping the first game 2-9 and then winning the following game, 3-2 in Erie, Pa.
- Graduate center Jersey Phillips scored against her former team in the first game of the series.
- For the first leg of the two-game set, freshman forward Alaina Giampietro chipped in one goal. In the second outing, she produced a three-point performance.
- Junior forward Madison Primeau cashed in twice at the Lakers arena, scoring the game-winning goal with under two minutes left to give RMU their first conference victory of the season.
- Graduate goaltender Emma Gorski officially reached 2,500 career saves this past weekend. She made 31 saves in her start at Mercyhurst.
- Freshman netminder Liviya Rubin earned her first minutes with the program, playing for seven and a half minutes to finish out the first game, making two saves.
- Winning the second match, Maggie Hatch stopped 41 shots which is now a career-high for the sophomore goalie.

The All-Time Series (Syracuse) – These two programs have faced off a total of 56 times, dating all the way back to the 2008-09 season. For the first three meetings, RMU came away victorious. Throughout the years, the Colonials have put together a three-game win streak against the Orange on four separate occasions. RMU also went on a seven-game unbeaten streak when playing Syracuse from 2010-13, winning four games and earning three ties. The last time these two programs played one another, the Colonials made history, beating the Orange 1-0, to win the CHA Championship in the 2020-21 campaign. Defenseman
Gillian Thompson scored the game-winning goal seven minutes into the final and RMU held onto their lead to win the playoff tournament. All-time, RMU has outscored Syracuse, 127-114 across 56 games. Through the series, they've shut out Syracuse nine times and have scored five or more goals in seven games.

Scouting the Orange – After 11 games played in the 2023-24 campaign, Syracuse is 3-7-1 overall and are 0-2-0 in the CHA conference so far. Their two conference losses came against Penn State, falling 2-4 and 2-6. Graduate forward Darci Johal holds three goals and four assists, leading the team in assists and points. Her teammates Kate Holmes, Alexandria Weiss and Tatum White all have dished our four assists as well. Graduate defenseman Rachel Teslak owns the most goals through their schedule with four tallies. Starting in all 11 games, goaltender Allie Kelley possesses 350 saves already with a 3.63 G.A.A. and .897 save percentage. She's picked up one shutout along with three wins for the Orange. Defensively, Kailey Langefels has blocked a team-high 16 shots. Head coach Britni Smith offers a veteran squad, featuring 13 graduate and senior student-athletes on the roster.

GIAMPIETRO GATHERS MORE AWARDS
Freshman forward
Alaina Giampietro gathered national attention for her solid play across the month of October. For the last two weeks of October, she was named Rookie of the Week by the CHA conference and then tabbed as the Rookie of the Month. Following those awards, the Hockey Commissioners Association chose Giampietro as their Rookie of the Month.

From Strongsville, Ohio, she's produced six goals and six assists in 10 games, totaling 12 points. Currently, she's at the top of the leaderboard for freshmen, leading all rookies in goals, assists and points.

She'll enter the month of November on a four-game goal streak as she found the back of the net in each game in the Clarkson and Mercyhurst series.

Giampietro owns three multi-point games in the 2023-24 campaign. Her last outing may have been her best as she chipped in offensively on each RMU goal, helping the Colonials beat the Lakers to win their first CHA game of the season, 3-2. Her three-point effort was her first three-point game of her young career.
