Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU Department of Athletics has unveiled upgrades to Joe Walton Stadium prior to the start of the 2023 season, which includes a new video scoreboard, the addition of a scoreboard in the north end zone, a new sound system and marketing and branding throughout the facility.
"We're excited to enhance the atmosphere on game day at Joe Walton Stadium from a sound and viewing perspective, taking the fan experience to the next level," RMU Vice President & Director of Athletics
Chris King '94 said. "We partnered with Daktronics because they are the industry leader for video board technology. The new technology will not only become a great addition to the overall atmosphere and game day experience, but will also bring a new level of entertainment for the fan experience on game day. We are also excited to unveil the upgraded technology and sound system at the first home football game, where we will begin a new tradition for our fan base by playing the home season opener as a night game under the lights. Adding a premium video board is a game changer for Colonial football and lacrosse games."
The new video scoreboard was supplied by Daktronics and was installed by Institutional Specialties (ISI), which is based in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Daktronics 15HD Live Video Display measures 18' high by 32' wide, while the scoreboard in the north end zone measures 4.5' by 16' and gives fans access to the latest information on gameday. In addition to being an important feature for fans, the board and its capabilities enhances RMU's offerings for its sponsors and the numerous activities that happen on the field during gameday.
Horizon Information Systems, also out of Pittsburgh, Pa., completed an install of a new sound system for Joe Walton Stadium. The upgrade includes four Community R2 Max Loudspeakers and two Community R5 Max Loudspeakers, each of which are driven by Linea Research amplifiers, for an unmatched sound experience both in the stands and on field level.
The new sound system also includes new Shure ULXD wireless microphones that will be used on game days by the officiating crew and performances on the field as well as new speakers on the outside of the stadium for an improved experience in the plaza of Joe Walton Stadium.
Fans that purchase suites in Joe Walton Stadium during lacrosse season will also get the opportunity to hear television broadcast audio from new ceiling speakers in each of the interior spaces of the facility.
In addition to the upgrades with the scoreboard and sound system, RMU has new marketing and branding throughout Joe Walton Stadium, which includes hallways and locker room foyers. Additional marketing and branding updates to the UPMC Events Center and North Athletic Complex are in progress, as well.
