MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's soccer team continues Horizon League action this weekend with a pivotal road contest at Purdue Fort Wayne. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, September 27 at 4:00 p.m. at the Hefner Soccer Complex in Fort Wayne, Ind. The match will stream live on ESPN+.
RMU LATELY
RMU (3-1-3, 1-0-1 #HLMSOC) enters the matchup riding momentum after a dramatic 2-2 draw against Northern Kentucky this past weekend at the North Athletic Complex. RMU earned a valuable point in conference play thanks to goals from
Kyler Miller, who scored with just three seconds left in the first half off an assist from
Jaxson Lee, and
Victor Koah, who netted his first of the season after strong build-up play involving
Royie Rahamim and
Jack Bejarano. Goalkeeper
Josh Lane added two saves in the contest to help preserve the result.
Through seven games, Rahamim has emerged as RMU's most dangerous attacking threat, pacing the team in both goals (4) and points (10). Bejarano and Lee share the team lead with three assists apiece, while junior
Kevin Gorbell continues to anchor the lineup with a team-high 605 minutes on the field. Lane has been a constant presence in net, starting all seven matches while posting three wins, three clean sheets, 23 saves, and a .742 save percentage.
Five Colonials – Gorbell, Koah, Rahamim,
Fabian Overkamp, and
Anass Hadran – have started every game this season, providing the backbone for Head Coach
Jonathan Potter. RMU currently sits tied in second place in the Horizon League standings.
ALL-TIME VS. PURDUE FORT WAYNE
Saturday marks the sixth all-time meeting between RMU and Purdue Fort Wayne since the Colonials entered the Horizon League in 2020. The series is evenly matched, with RMU holding a 2-2-1 record against the Mastodons.
Last season, PFW edged RMU, 2-1, in Fort Wayne, while the Colonials claimed a convincing 3-0 victory the year prior in Moon Township. Hadran has played a notable role in the series history, recording both a goal and an assist in past matchups against the Mastodons.
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
PFW (5-0-3, 2-0-0 #HLMSOC) enters this matchup unbeaten through their first eight contests. The Mastodons most recently defeated Southern Indiana, 3-0, to close out their non-conference slate and have already collected strong league wins over Wright State (4-2) and Oakland (3-1).
Offensively, graduate forward Shane Anderson has been the focal point, leading the Horizon League in points (18) while pacing PFW in both goals (6) and assists (6). He is joined up front by fellow graduate forward Iann Topete, who also has six goals to his name. Midfielders Karsten Ternes and Andrew Hollenbach have each logged 675 minutes so far.
In goal, Sep Habibi has been a steady force, starting all eight matches while earning five wins, three shutouts, and compiling 27 saves with a .794 save percentage. As a unit, the Mastodons average 2.25 goals per game while allowing just 0.88.
PFW finished last season 7-7-2 overall and 4-4-1 in conference play, qualifying for the Horizon League Tournament as the No. 6 seed before bowing out in the quarterfinals against Milwaukee.
