Rahe Selected as Candidate for Senior CLASS Award

James Rahe one of 20 outstanding men’s lacrosse student-athletes up for honor

Overland Park, Kan. – Senior James Rahe of the Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team is one of 20 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award.

Rahe was selected from a list of nominees as one of the top NCAA men's lacrosse student-athletes who excels both on and off the field.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

A mechanical engineering major from Aldergrove, British Columbia, Rahe is currently a part of the Team Impact Ambassadors for RMU men's lacrosse, a lacrosse coach for the Pine-Richland school district, and has worked with the Moon Crest after-school program multiple times throughout his four years with the Colonials.

Rahe is a two-time All-NEC Second Team honoree and a captain of this year's squad. In 40 career games entering 2016, he has recorded 41 goals, 35 assists, 76 points and 36 ground balls. Rahe has made 26 starts in his last 27 appearances. Last season, he led the team in assists (19) and points (36) and finished second in goals (17). He ranked second in the NEC in assists per game (1.36) and sixth in points per game (2.57).

"James is a very well-rounded student-athlete who has excelled in the classroom and on the field," said head coach Andrew McMinn. "He has grown tremendously as a leader of the program and continues to set a positive example for his teammates while constantly striving to improve himself in everything he does."

From the list of 20 candidates, a national media committee will select ten finalists for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award in April. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award.

The Colonials open their home slate this weekend on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. when they host Manhattan College at Joe Walton Stadium.
