Fifth-year Yessie Valencia of the track & field squad is the recipient of the RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week for May 11, 2022, her third honor of the spring semester. At the 2022 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships last weekend in Rochester, Mich., Valencia won the individual crown in the discus while earning silver in the hammer throw. She unleashed a toss of 50.73 meters (166’5”) in the discus to not only establish a personal best but set a new #HLTF Outdoor Championships record. In the hammer throw, Valencia, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., finished with a distance of 53.31 meters (174’11”) to trail only her teammate, Keturah Hunter.
