The Robert Morris University women's basketball team, winners of the 2007 Northeast Conference Championship, will play the 20th ranked team in the country in NC State as the 13th seed in the Fresno Regional. The Colonials first round game will be played in Raleigh, N.C. at the RBC Center.
The Wolfpack earned a fourth seed after finishing the season with a 23-9 overall record, including a 10-4 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). NC State has won five of their last six games, including handing Duke their only loss of the season in the ACC Tournament, 70-65, on March 3, 2007. The Wolfpack lost to ACC Tournament champion North Carolina in the championship game, 60-54, March 4.
Khadijah Whittington leads NC State in scoring (10.2 ppg) and rebounding (10.6 rpg), while Gillian Goring is averaging 10.0 points per game. Ashley Key is averaging 3.22 assists per game and is shooting 37.9% from beyond the three-point arc.
The Colonials are led by All-NEC and All-NEC Tournament selections Chinata Nesbit (Washington, D.C. / Chipola J.C.) and Sugeiry Monsac (Villa Maria, Dom. Rep. / Arizona Western J.C.). Nesbit, the 2007 NEC Tournament MVP, is averaging 19.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, while Monsac is averaging 16.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Nesbit ranks 16th in the country in rebounding and 25th in scoring, while Monsac ranks 23rd in the country with 2.8 steals per game. Also, senior Jenna Burkett (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) is shooting 41.0% from beyond the three-point arc, ranking her 18th in the country. Burkett is also the schools all-time leader with 202 three-pointer made.
