Colonials Double Up On Wagner, 75-38

Moon Township, Pa. / Sewall Center?The Robert Morris University women's basketball forced 31 Wagner turnovers and had 19 steals en route to a 75-38 win at the Charles L. Sewall Center in Northeast Conference action Saturday afternoon. The win, which was stretched the team's record win streak to 11 games, was the Colonials largest since beating the Seahawks by 45, 95-50, on February 19, 2007. RMU improves to 17-9 overall and 13-2 in the NEC while Wagner drops to 6-20 and 4-11 in conference play.

 

Junior guard Sade Logan (Knoxville, Tenn. / Chattanooga State JC), the nation's second-leading scorer, finished with a game-high 27 points on 10-21 shooting. She went 5-13 from long-range and was 2-4 from the charity stripe while grabbing four boards and picking up four steals.

 

Senior forward Chinata Nesbit (Washington, D.C. / Chipola JC) and junior guard Kendra Williams (Bronx, N.Y. / Mount St. Ursula) each had 11 points. Nesbit was 4-10 overall and had a game-high nine boards. She added six assists and four steals. Williams was deadly from long-range, going 3-of-3 from three-point range while dishing out seven assists. Junior guard Angela Pace (Westchester, N.Y. / Monroe JC) finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

 

Robert Morris made the most of a sloppy first half that featured 37 combined turnovers, 21 by Wagner and 16 by the host Colonials. RMU converted those 21 turnovers into 16 points and a 37-15 first half lead. It took the Seahawks 4:24 to get their first shot from the field. By that point, they trailed 11-4 as the Colonials recorded four steals in the first four minutes. RMU then went on a 14-2 run, taking a 27-8 lead with 4:27 left in the first half. It took Wagner 16:18 to get to double digits when Stephanie McBride hit a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 27-10. Robert Morris doubled up Wagner over the last 4:27 en route to a 37-15 halftime lead.

 

The Colonials stretched the lead to 33 by opening the second half with 11 unanswered points, going up 48-15, 3:14 into the half. Robert Morris put it into  cruise control from there, never letting the lead fall to less than 25 en route to the 37-point, 75-38, win.

 

Chelsey Bunyer had 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting to lead Wagner. Ali Ridge added eight points and Ashley Olson finished with six.

 

RMU finished with 28 points off of turnovers and shot 45.0 percent (27-60) for the game and 47.1 percent (8-17) from three-point range. The Seahawks shot 31.1 percent (14-45) and were 0-12 from three-point range. The Colonials owned the glass, ripping down 42 boards, 19 on the offensive end, while Wagner corralled 25.

 

Mount St. Mary's visits the Sewall Center for Senior Night on Monday, February 25, in a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
