Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's indoor track and field team opened the 2011 calendar year by taking part in the Penn State Relays in University Park, Pa.
Highlighting the meet for the Colonials was sophomore Ben Ingle (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone), who finished second in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:32.37. Ingle trailed only Chris Behre of Saint Francis (Pa.), who won the individual title with a time of 2:31.80.
Also earning a top five finish for RMU was senior Charles Gladman (Philadelphia, Pa. / Cardinal Dougherty), who finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.18. The mark was good enough for him to qualify for the IC4A / ECAC Championships.
Brady Gehret of host Penn State finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.41 and was followed by Emunael Mpanduki (21.59) of Penn State, Aaron Anderson (21.63) of Hampton and Aaron Nadolsky (21.93) of Penn State.
In the field events, sophomore Steve Mitchell (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic) finished eighth in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 16.38 meters (53'9"), while sophomore Collin Ray (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area) finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 15.12 meters (49'7.25").
Senior Dewitt Hudson (Rochester, Pa. / Rochester) finished with a time of 8.59 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, while in the finals freshman Chris Carper (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) finished fourth thanks to a time of 8.68.
In the 500-meter dash, freshman Nick Gentile (Sarver, Pa. / Freeport) finished eighth thanks to a time of 1:05.63.
Robert Morris continues its 2010-11 indoor season Saturday, Jan. 15, by taking part in the Doug Raymond Invitational in Kent, Ohio.
