Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's indoor track & field team concluded its 2010-11 campaign this weekend by finishing seventh at the 2011 Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in Landover, Md.
The Colonials finished with 50 points, with Central Connecticut State taking home the team title with 114 points. Rounding out the top five were Sacred Heart (109), Long Island (108), Monmouth (102.50) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (63).
Leading the way for RMU was senior Chris Spataro (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine-Richland), who took home silver in the pole vault thanks to a leap of 4.65 meters (15'3") to earn All-NEC honors.
In the shot put, sophomore Collin Ray (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area) qualified for the IC4A/ECAC Championships and established a new school record in the event with a throw of 16.13 meters (52'11"). That tally was good enough to finish fifth.
Sophmore Steve Mitchell (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic) also earned All-NEC honors in the weight throw, finishing second with a toss of 17.93 meters (58'10").
In the field events, senior Charles Gladman (Philadelphia, Pa. / Cardinal Dougherty) finished third in the 400-meter dash. One day after winning the preliminaries with a time of 50.57 seconds, Gladman posted a mark of 50.45 seconds to finish third behind Julius Mutekanga of Long Island and Legairre Radden of Central Connecticut State.
Senior T.J. Green (Stamford, Conn. / Milford Academy) and freshman Nicolas Gentile (Sarver, Pa. / Freeport) each finished fifth in their respective events. Green posted a time of 7.00 seconds in the 60-meter dash, while Gentile crossed the finish line in a time of 1:55.49 in the 800-meter run.
