Colonials Compete at Paul Kaiser Classic

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's outdoor track & field team had its final tuneup for the 2011 Northeast Conference Championships by taking part in the Paul Kaiser Classic Saturday, hosted by the University of Shippensburg.

The Colonials took a limited number of participants, with sophomore Robert Saltsgiver (Hermitage, Pa. / Hickory) taking part in the shot put, discus and hammer throw.

Saltsgiver finished in the top 10 in both the discus and the shot put, finishing fourth and ninth in the events, respectively. He posted a toss of 45.32 meters (148'8") in the discus, trailing only Travis Nye and Adam Deisoroth of Shippensburg and Mike Cheshire of Kutztown.

In the shot, Saltsgiver posted a throw of 13.83 meters (45'4.50") to finish ninth, while he tallied a toss of 40.55 meters (133'0") in the hammer throw to finish 13th.

Also for RMU, sophomore Jack Schreiber (Johnsonburg, Pa. / Johnsonburg) posted a toss of 40.21 meters (131'11") in the javelin, while senior John Uccellini (Indiana, Pa. / Indiana) finished with a time of 16.30 seconds in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles to finish 13th.

The 2011 NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships take place Saturday, May 7, and Sunday, May 8, on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J. The firsts event of the meet will be the 10,000-meter run, which will begin at 9:25 a.m. Saturday.
